It seems that nary five weeks ago we here at Barratts were paying our sad farewell tribute to Girls Aloud, perhaps the best British girl group of their generation. This week came the (nearly) equally as devastating development that the (second) most successful group to ever graduate from the X Factor, JLS, have too decided to part ways.
It’s a double whammy in a short period of time which is sure to have a negative impact on the pop charts but thankfully both groups have left a heck of a legacy behind them. Not only did the erstwhile Jack the Lad Swing pave the way for One Direction and present to the world an oeuvre including Beat Again and Everybody In Love (which always made me feel sad for the inevitable sole concert attendee who, in good consciousness, couldn’t raise their arm, adding to the melancholy of the situation), the fabulous foursome also gifted us some sartorial inspiration which should last well beyond the JLS candle finally burning out.
So we bid them a found adieu for now (until their inevitable reunion on an ITV2 show in 5 years), place the good times in our hearts and remember how JLS sound-tracked the last few years of our lives; making the bad times good and the good times better. In lieu of audio, here’s our tribute to the sartorial compositions JLS bestowed upon the world and, more importantly, how to replicate their look at Barratts.

Making something of a retro-inspired comeback are footwear choices that, until recently, were most synonymous with 80s and 90s American basketball players – the Hi Top trainer. Appropriated by fashionistas around the world, the sport shoe has particularly enjoyed a return to prominence with the current trend for sports-casual dominating much of the high street. To celebrate this, we’ve put together a couple example of celebrities sporting the shoes and how to get the look at Barratts!
J-Lo has always been a lady who has not been afraid to mix up influences in her wardrobe – from designer dresses to sports chic, the Gigli actress seems at ease in each. The example we’ve chosen here, however, is an illustration of how it’s possible to team Hi Tops with jeans to create a lively and vivacious ensemble. Try our Truffle Lace Up Hi Top Flatform Trainers to achieve this look!
